I didn’t see this film advertised and I only knew about it because it showed up in the listings, I watched the trailer and I thought “ohh this looks interesting”.
I went on a Sunday evening and there were two other people in watching the show. It’s about a university lecturer, Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage), a very ordinary person and not very memorable. That is until he starts appearing in people's dreams, not doing anything just being there watching what was going on.
But he goes viral and tries to ride the wave and get a book published, the rep has other ideas though. Anyway that’s just sort of a bit story, it’s about how the “fame” affects him and his family, the film is full of cringey moments which I found hilarious throughout the film and the other two people as well who I heard laughing too.
Nicolas Cage suited the role perfectly, I’m not a big fan or anything but I don’t dislike him but his dry humor and person are perfect for it.
The story flowed well and there were any real lulls, the odd flash of action in some of the dreams and just more awkwardness and laughing.
I know it’s fairly fresh in my head but I would go as far to say that this has been my favorite film of 2023. I know it wouldn’t be for everyone and it would freak some people out or gross people out but for me I just found it funny from start to finish.
